Chapter 18
Colton
Waking up and seeing Giannaâs dark hair fanned across the pillow, her long lashes peacefully resting on her cheekbones, and every so often a small smile tugging at the corners of her lips made me smile. I wondered what she might have been dreaming of but was thankful she was happy.
It didnât escape me how my feelings for Gianna had changed in a short amount of time. In a way, I envied her. She seemed to take her job with a relaxing grace, where I and my colleagues at Mainstay Advertising, in Chicago, seemed to go a hundred miles per hour, rarely taking a moment to breathe.
Our stories were so different. I had my bachelorâs degree and had multiple internships before I landed my job. Gianna started hers at a marina. If anyone would have told me during my college years that her method could work, I wouldnât have believed them. Then again, I wasnât a gorgeous brunette with a sassy attitude.
I turned my attention to Gianna, stretching lazily beside me.
âMmm⦠Colton?â Gianna reached over and placed her hand on my bare chest. Her eyes fluttered open. âGood morning.â When she saw my hands were occupied, I set my phone back on the side table.
Sliding lower under the thin bedsheet, I moved to lie on my side so we were face-to-face. âGood morning, beautiful. Did you sleep well?â On their own accord, my fingers began to play with the ends of her silky hair.
âI did. I had a dream that because of us, Eliteâs sales continued to skyrocket, and we were dubbed the dream team of advertising. They even created a new model sports car named the Gianna.â
âSounds like a great dream, except you forgot someone. Maybe it should be the Coltanna?â
She scrunched up her nose. âWhy do you get to go first?â
âBecause Giaton sounds like a diuretic.â
âNever mind youâre right, Coltanna is fine.â She let out a sigh. âHowâd you sleep?â
âGreat.â I continued to fiddle with her hair. âWhat would you like to do today? Itâs supposed to be a hot one.â
Before she answered, she stretched her arm and plucked her phone off the charger. Propped up on one elbow, her eyebrows arched as she scanned a message. âOh, I got a text late last night. Weâve been invited to Jude and Braeâs home in the Hamptons. That sounds great. What do you think? Day at the beach?â
âWeâve been invited, or you have?â
She waved her hand, swatting the air between us. âSame thing.â Her fingers began flying over the small keyboard. âAll set.â Gianna gave me a chaste kiss before tossing the sheet off and jumping out of bed.
âGianna, Iâm not sure itâs a good idea to bring me to your brotherâs best friendâs house. Wouldnât that be admitting toâ¦â
âSo?â she said, quick to cut me off. âCome on, letâs get ready.â
I watched her cute bare ass disappear into the bathroom. Meanwhile, all I could think of was how her brothers were going to react. It was bad enough we were living together as coworkers.
